WTCA Partners with Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health and Wellness Center to Bring Tai Chi to Franklin Residents

Wisconsin Tai Chi Academy is pleased to announce a new partnership with Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health and Wellness Center to include Tai Chi classes as part of their range of services the people of Franklin, Wisconsin, and surrounding areas.

Sifu Ray Gates will be teaching the Ba Fa Wu Bu Tai Chi set in four-week blocks with the first block commencing Thursday, January 15, at 1:00pm. The Ba Fa Wu Bu Tai Chi set (sometimes referred to as Small Space Tai Chi set) teaches people the foundational thirteen postures (eight methods, five steps) of Tai Chi. It is a relatively new set created in 2018 by the General Administration of Sport of China with the aim of having a short, easy to learn Tai Chi routine which covers fundamental movements and principles of Tai Chi, thereby making it more readily accessible to the general public.

“Ba Fa Wu Bu Tai Chi is great for people who want to try Tai Chi, yet aren’t sure if they’re ready to commit to a longer learning process,” Gates said. “In four weeks participants will gain a solid introduction to what Tai Chi is about, how it’s performed, and what they can expect if they want to learn more. Of course, there’s still much more to learn than we can teach in four weeks, however in these blocks people will learn the full set, which they can then practice for themselves, or continue to refine their sets and deepen their understanding by returning for more classes.”

Tai Chi will be a new service provided at Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health and Wellness Center, which also features classes in Kobayahsi Shorin-Ryu Karate, Okinawan Kobudo, and Yoga, and hopes to be offering other services such as massage therapy in the near future. “When Sensei Morganne MacDonald and Program Director Vince Milewski explained their vision of a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to fitness and wellness, I knew that what we can offer through WTCA would be a great fit for their Center,” Gates said. “We’re very excited to be working with them, and looking forward to bring Tai Chi to the Franklin area.”
